The Outer Ear
The auricles are considered aesthetically beautiful when they have the characteristic folds, when their size and proportions don’t exceed the average and when they are neither protruding nor too closely fitting. Excessively protruding ears are often so embarrassing for the affected persons that they wish a surgical correction.
Medically and scientifically spoken, auricles are considered protruding when the angle between the ear and the skull is wider than 30°. Yet, since it is not easy to determine the angle, it is replaced by the easier measurement of the distance between the edge of auricle and the skull, which lies normally between 15 an 20 mm.
